LOCAL RACERS LEAD WINNERS AT FIREBIRD



          BOISE, Idaho (May 3, 2010) – Four local racers took home big wins this past weekend at
the 40th Anniversary Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Dan Wiebold Ford at Firebird Raceway
with Jackie Alley, Eagle, Idaho, and Dan Lafferty, Wendell, Idaho, leading the way to winner’s
circle.

Alley, one of two female winners in this weekend NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, drove her ’
69 Camaro to a 9.711 second lap at 136.86 mph in her Super Stock win over Rodney Stults,
Marysville, Wash. and Lafferty beat Terry Wilcox with a 7.266 second pass at 186.33 mph in his
Top Dragster.  Carl Youngstrom, Caldw
ell, Idaho, defeated Boise resident Steve Holland in the
Pro class and Dick Vander Meer, Nampa, Idaho, won in Super Pro when Kacee Jo Bootsma,
Outlook, Wash., fouled at the starting line.

The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series was the second half of the double header this weekend with 4-
time World Champion Jim Murphy posting the win against series point’s leader Adam Sorokin
who won the season opening March Meet at Auto Club Famoso Raceway.  In a classic match-up
between the No. 1 and 2 qualifiers, Murphy raced to a 5.802 second run at 248.82 mph while
Sorokin experienced problems and slowed to a 9.208 second lap.  Murphy’s final round pass was
the quickest and fastest run of the event.

In Comp eliminator it was Jeff Lane taking the trophy out of North Bend, Wash., in his ’09 Cobalt
while Barry Daniluk, Red Deer, Alb., CAN., blasted to the win in the division’s Auto Max USA Top
Sportsman class at 6.866 seconds, 207.90 mph.

Nikki Cannon, Bothell Wash., held off Wayne Linder Jr. in her ’67 Nova and the final of Super
Street and joined Alley to complete the pair of female winner’s.

Other winners included Mark Faul, Tacoma, Wash. in Stock Eliminator; Steve Williams, Loma
Linda, Calif., in Super Comp; Ken Heard, Ridgefield, Wash., in Super Gas; and Jeff Havens,
Yakima, Wash., in the Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by Harley Davidson.

          Northwest Division racers head to Mission Raceway for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag
Racing Series event, May 28-30.
